Brand Name: Relpax
Generic Name: Eletriptan hydrobromide
This medication description is not meant for treatment prescription without the intervention of a specialist.
Common Uses
Relpax is used to treat migraine headaches with or without the presence of auras (visual disturbances that precede an attack, such as halos or flickering lights). It shortens the duration of the headache but will not prevent attacks.
How to Take
When a headache begins, take one 20-milligram or 40-milligram tablet. If the first dose does not relieve the headache, check with your doctor before taking a second one.
If the headache goes away but returns later, a second dose may be taken if 2 hours have elapsed since the first dose. Do not take more than 80 milligrams of Relpax in a 24-hour period.
Relpax is not recommended for use in children under 18 years old.
Warning and Precautions
This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Relpax with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
If Relpax does not stop or decrease the severity of your migraine attack or if your symptoms become worse, check with your doctor.
Relpax is intended to relieve acute migraine headaches. Do not use it to prevent or reduce the number of attacks you experience. Use Relpax only to treat an actual migraine attack. If you have a headache that is different than your usual migraine attacks, check with your doctor before using Relpax.
Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider.
Diabetes patients - Relpax may cause the results of some tests for urine ketones to be wrong. Ask your doctor before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
